Mom had a wooden spoon. Kipling was right; let the puppy learn while younger. A couple of smacks on the bottom and a shake of the finger in the face -- BAD baby! - when they're little, and they won't grow into untrained mastiffs. This does NOT mean, of course, we don't hug them every time we get a chance! Mammal babies die from not being touched.

Congratulations, Stinz, you've just learned why women are more frustrating than computers: they never forget and they can save all your mistakes, but they also never crash and there's no turning them off.

My folks never struck either of us, but I never would have thought of smarting off to my folks (well, I did once and the sound of my dad's voice is with me still). But I always respected them and the idea of disappointing them did more to prevent me from doing anything stupid.

My husband just needed to be shown something different from what he knew; once he figured it out he was happy to embrace it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Oh, that's good! I'll have to tell my husband about that: he's Chinese and I met him while I was living there (and not in the prettied-up, westernized part: he's from the countryside). My Dad's a 9th generation Scot but Mom's a 2nd or 3rd generation German, so she's no stranger to getting a good rap on the head with a knuckle.
